Iriomote is one of Yaeyama Islands in farthest south of Japan. Over 90% of the island is covered by dense jungle and mangrove swamp with a tropical rainforest climate. Due to its geographical location, islanders refer to their tidal charts to plan their day and the old lunar calendar is effective till the present day. The series “pace” focus on -cycle of nature-we take for granted in the city. The series was photographed by living and working on the island for 3 months, learning the way of life on the island to co-exist with nature. The work is in diptych, showing the high tide and low tide of chosen locations. The title of each image is shooting date recorded in lunar year and its tidal type.
